Sandrine Alouf

Sandrine Alouf took possession of the Apostrophe Hotel to tell stories, magic stories, personal or universal, in order to create one only story, the one of a unique hotel, original and madly welcoming.
Once upon a time, an encounter between Sandrine Alouf, Mister and Misses Gatien and their daughter Isabelle… There were no flying carpets, neither little genie springing up from a magic lamp. But there have been ideas dropped around a coffee or lemonade. And laughter, and complicity, and the will to create a Parisian universe dedicated to the human intelligence, the generosity of the creation and the marks that writing and creation leave on the walls in (almost) all its forms. Then Sandrine starts to look all over the world around her, Paris’s little streets, the ground and the pavements, the floors and random buildings. Then Sandrine looked up to the sky, as she did it very well, and flew through the clouds made of timeless forms. Then Sandrine gathered a thousand and one treasures, pieces of paper being blown away by the wind, dreamlike pictures brought back from far away travels, posters torn in the subway or in artiste’s studios, pieces of wood dug up on old walls and on the hotel’s ceiling before its renovation. And of this entire urban Ali Baba cavern, Sandrine modelled a creative course along the 16 hotel rooms. Once upon a time, a “poem hotel” as named by Vincent Bastie, the architect who she works with.

This is how Sandrine introduces herself:

“Traveller,
I’m from here and from elsewhere
I’m from here and from elsewhere.
Nomad,
I wonder
Between legends of the past
And future visions.
Pencils and cameras
Are my tools to fix the present move
And change it freely.
So that I always describe, romance, tell and make dream.
On a beautiful day in the Luxembourg station

By following the clouds
I made the sky go underground.
As time goes by, I glean, I compile,
Then I compose:
Photograph series,
Book object
Small guides
Trend boards
But above all, I set up:
Hotel rooms, private flats and various places.
I love and I aspire
To make each project
A moment of singular grace and poetic
For you.”
